25,000 Job Openings in Saudi Arabia for OFWs

There is no doubt that the construction industry of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA) relies heavily on overseas Filipino workers (OFWs). One proof is the continuous and rising demand for their services as large construction companies in KSA still prefer to hire Filipino workers.

The president of Gulf Cooperation Council-(GCC) Accredited Medical Clinics Association (Gamca), Dr. Rodolfo B. Punzalan, informed that jobs for about 25,000 OFWs are available in Saudi Arabia.

One of the largest construction firms there, Saudi Oger Ltd. requested an urgent job order for the following workers: structural engineers, pipe fitters, craftsmen, heavy duty drivers, pump technicians, male housekeepers, welders, quality control, training, planning, electronics, plumbing, electrical, and IT networks personnel. The openings for the 25,000 positions are all urgent that the ambassador of KSA to the Philippines, Mohammad Ameen Wali, requested Punzalan to quickly submit the medical results of applicants for the faster issuance of work visas. They want the 25,000 workers to be hired to arrive in Saudi Arabia by the end of May so the result of the medical exam and work visa processing for them are given priority.

According to Punzalan, applicants with clear medical results will be given a medical certificate after three working days while certificates for those with pending cases may be released after seven days. One needs to present any valid identification card and referral any of 17 Gamca clinics to be allowed to undergo at medical exam. On the other hand, their passports will be processed by the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA).

Qatar stops issuance of Visa Certification

Starting February 1, 2009, the Embassy of the State of Qatar shall issue Visa Stickers instead of visa certification to prevent falsification of Qatar visas. POEA will not issue exit clearance to departing OFWs without the visa sticker. Visa certifications issued prior to February 1, 2009, however, are still valid.
